Job Summary

 

Clear Path for Veterans, Inc. (CPV or Clear Path) is a community-based organization delivering world-class, holistic programs and services to veterans and their families without condition. The Culinary Assistant assists the Sous Chef with maintaining a productive, functional kitchen through organizing and directing volunteer staff and maintaining the kitchen and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition. This position reports to the Sous Chef.

 

Primary Functions

 

Support General Kitchen Operations

 

  1. Assists with execution of food truck and catering menus.
  2. Ensures a high-quality hospitality experience for veterans and other guests at all times.
  3. Assists with organization and cleanliness of facility to include but not limited to dishwashing and cleaning restrooms areas as needed.
  4. Follows all health and safety standards.
  5. Coordinates with Sous Chef for distribution of food
  6. Maintains and manages volunteer staff in coordination with the Volunteer Manager; provides guidance and direction to volunteers during service and events.
  7. Oversees all kitchen volunteers to ensure accurate and complete execution of daily tasks allowing for efficient operation of the kitchen.
  8. Assists Sous Chef with new kitchen volunteer training to ensure health and safety standards are met.
  9. Assists with large-scale event preparation and service; assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and maintenance for events.
  10. Assists the Sous Chef with ensuring that food preparation meets sanitation standards, and its presentation is aesthetically appealing aligning with the Clear Path standard of excellence.
  11. Ensures dishes are cleaned and organized.
  12. Maintains quality and consistency of food.
  13. Ensures compliance during on-site and off-site operations.
  14. Completes other related duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required.

 

  • Minimum of one (1) year in a food preparation and service environment required; properly documented and validated volunteer experience primarily consisting of food preparation and service will also be accepted.

 

  • ServSafe Certification preferred.

  • Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification.
  • Computer literate with good MS skills to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

 

Additional Requirements

 

  • Valid New York State driver’s license and must have use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be comfortable with dogs in the workplace.

 

 

 

Job-related Physical Abilities needed in order to perform the job in a satisfactory manner

 

Must be able to stand for long periods of time and have the ability to independently lift a maximum of 50 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient for constant use of computer keyboard and other office equipment.  Vision sufficient for frequent use of a computer monitor, developing and reading paperwork.
