Job Title: Culinary Technician

FSLA Status: Hourly; Non-Excempt

Job Summary

The incumbent in this position is responsible for aiding the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and Culinary Assistant provide 5-star experience to guests. Culinary operations are on and off campus which range from weekly canteen to food truck events in the community. As a member of the Culinary Team, the Technician is expected to possess exemplary customer service and communication skills. In addition, the Culinary Technician will be working in a fast-paced environment, offering expected challenges and on-the-job training opportunities, contributing to an effective learning atmosphere. Team members contribute to a high functioning and efficient culinary operation, and it is expected that the Culinary Technician will promote continued success.

Primary Functions

 Culinary / Customer Service

  1. Treats guests and patrons with dignity and respect.
  2. Supports food truck initiatives in multiple capacities including taking orders, prep work, and clean-up
  3. Supports Wednesday canteen luncheons and all events as requested.
  4. Ensures guests and patrons are greeted with hospitality and unconditional service.
  5. Responds to all culinary and food truck inquiries/requests in a timely manner.
  6. Creates an atmosphere that is both warm and welcoming.
  7. Helps to maximize guests’ experience through effective and proper procedures for food preparation, storing, rotating, and stocking inventory.
  8. Regularly monitors the inventory of the kitchen supplies.
  9. Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, or silverware.
  10. Removes trash and cleans kitchen garbage containers.
  11. Effectively multitasks and balances prep work while ensuring guests’ meals are prepared in a timely manner with the highest standards of quality maintained.
  12. Assists with coordination and execution of all catered events.

 

 Administrative and Miscellaneous

  1. Completes administrative tasks to include menu creation as requested.
  2. Coordinates with culinary volunteers to ensure all events and culinary activities are properly executed.
  3. Consistently willing to assist food and beverage employees at designated outlet locations as needed.
  4. Complies with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards.
  5. Exhibits maximum flexibility in responding to emerging needs.
  6. Complete other related duties as assigned.

 

 Education and Experience Needed

  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalency required.
  2. Background as a Culinary Assistant/Prep Cook or related experience.
  3. Manual dexterity to ensure proper operation of kitchen utensils and cutting tools.
  4. Effective communication skills.
  5. Proficient in English.
  6. Adept at performing tasks well in a fast-paced environment.

  1. Ensure you know how to use appropriate equipment.
  2. Complete mandatory induction and training courses, as and when required.
  3. Maintain professional knowledge and competence.

 Additional Requirements

  1. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and some holidays as necessary to accommodate for special event attendance.
  2. Participate in special events as required.
  3. To be responsible for your own health and safety and that of anybody else who may be affected by your acts or omissions.
  4. To complete risk assessments on activities, outings, and events as necessary.
  5. Ability to spend continual time standing.
  6. Ability to travel as needed within New York State in varying weather conditions.
  7. Must be comfortable with dogs in the workplace.

 

Work Location

Work locations will vary depending on day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. Primary base of operations is located at the main Clear Path for Veterans office in Chittenango.

 

Job-related Physical Abilities needed to perform the job in a satisfactory  manner

Must possess speech and hearing sufficient for telephone and in-person communications.  Manual dexterity is sufficient for constant use of computer keyboard and other office equipment.  Vision sufficient for frequent use of a computer monitor, developing and reading paperwork. Must be able to stand and be actively mobile for extended periods of time, including bending, stooping, reaching, running, balancing, etc. Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
