JOB SUMMARY:

Clear Path for Veterans, Inc. (CPV or Clear Path), is Upstate New York’s Veteran Resource Center serving as a hub of information, programs, and services for Veterans and their families. The Director of Public Relations and Marketing is responsible for creating, maintaining, and promoting, a clear and concise message of Clear Path’s mission and brand that engages the community at all levels. This position routinely uses social media, and other forms of information gathering and communication to stay in tune with National trends and news relating to Veterans, military members, and their families.                                                    

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Public Relations, Marketing, and Development

1.       Serves as Clear Path liaison with all media outlets and builds relationships at the local, regional, and national levels.

2.       Provides up to date media kits as needed and requested.

3.       Initiates and identifies CPV stories relevant to current Veteran and community trends and provides press coverage when appropriate.

4.       Publicizes all CPV events and follows marketing timelines and standard operating procedures.

5.       Responds promptly to all media requests for information.

6.       Monitors print, TV, radio, and online references to CPV and manages brand position.

7.       Maintains an archive of print and online publicity relating to CPV.

8.       Coordinates with CPV Outreach team and staff to produce a monthly newsletter.

9.       Actively encourage external newsletter signup and ensure all relevant event and program information is published monthly.

10.    Proofs all PR and Marketing related CPV written content as needed and requested.

11.    Coordinates promotion efforts for all fundraising and non-fundraising events.

12.    Maintains a calendar of events on the website that aligns with yearly PR and Marketing strategy.

13.    Assists with fund development to include sponsorship of all events, donor cultivation, and fundraising efforts.

14.    Identifies new organizational opportunities and national partnerships.

15.    Submits quarterly reports to the executive leadership team and prepares progress/status reports for the board of directors as requested.

Social Media

1.       Manages CPV brand via all social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In, and YouTube.

2.       Ensures CPV brand and mission promotion is focused on reaching target audiences across all social media platforms.  

3.       Works with CPV staff to develop content for CPV’s online presence.

4.       Develops new online platforms when applicable.

5.       Initiates and trains all staff on usage of social media to elevate CPV’s exposure and followers.

6.       Manages, develops and publishes content for all CPV programs and activities.

7.       Develops and implements 3 social media strategies (content, promotion, conversion) for CPV towards higher conversion and click-thru rates.

8.       Works with Executive Director (ED) to spearhead online fundraising efforts.

9.       Measures and analyzes strategies to effectively report on ROI.

10.    Provides outside usage reports to ED for website and social media platforms (site traffic, social media following, open rates, etc.…)

Communications

1.       Manages the design, printing, and ordering process of all CPV marketing materials.

2.       Compiles yearly sample files of CPV publications, invitations, and appeals.

3.       Coordinates CPV photography and video needs; manages yearly digital image database.

4.       Responsible for maintaining accurate, up to date, CPV website content and blog, including developing and writing stories and obtaining associated content (stills and video) for posting to the website.

Marketing 

1.       Oversees the integrity of the CPV brand, ensuring all program materials follow CPV guidelines and are up to date and reflect any organizational changes including adequate graphic designs and logos. 

2.       Responsible for designing all agency brochures, CPV apparel logos, and any other graphic design needs that arise.

3.       Maintains, and keeps current, a digital library of CPV content, logos, and marketing materials

4.       Highly knowledgeable in the principles of “Search and Social” and maintains a working knowledge of SEO principles including keyword research.

5.       Identifies and creates banners/signs needed to display important information at all CPV events.

6.       Produces yearly, and ongoing marketing plans to include advertising and marketing initiatives to further CPV’s visibility in the community.

7.       Produces and upkeeps program-specific advertising.

8.       Ensures all advertising and communication expenses are within budget.

Miscellaneous

1.       Attends and actively participates in staff meetings.

2.       Complete other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or other related field and 2-3 years proven experience working in a combination of marketing, public relations, communications, capital campaigns, and social media positions required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM EFFECTIVELY IN THE POSITION:

·        Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills.

·        Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of Social Media platforms, their respective participants, and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.

·        Video editing skills preferred but not required.

·        Proficiency in Salesforce, Photoshop, Facebook Pages, Facebook Publishing Tools, Facebook Ad Tools, Online Demographic targeting, Twitter for Business, Google Analytics, Google Ad Words, Data interpretation skills.

·        Ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to the analytical side – be able to demonstrate why proposed ideas are analytically sound.

·        Flexibility to work well within changing priorities and situations.

·        Ability to work with a diverse group of people.

·        Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skills; attention to detail.

·        Moderate computer literacy with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

·        Valid New York State driver’s license and must have use of a reliable vehicle.

·        Will occasionally be required to use own vehicle to pick up PR and marketing supplies.

·        May be required to travel daily as needed to events within New York State in varying weather conditions.

·        Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights weekends, and some holidays as necessary to accommodate for special event attendance.

·        Must be comfortable with dogs in the workplace.

JOB-RELATED PHYSICAL ABILITIES NEEDED IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE JOB IN A SATISFACTORY MANNER:

Must possess speech and hearing sufficient for telephone and in-person communications.  Manual dexterity is sufficient for regular use of computer keyboards and other office equipment.  Vision sufficient for frequent use of a computer monitor to write and read documents. This position requires the ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
