Title: Accounting Manager, Construction 

Location: Syracuse

Salary: $70-85k/yr

Summary: 

This position performs the accounting and bookkeeping function within the enterprise's construction division.  Primary functions are comprised of (1.) Responsibility for the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, month-end reporting, variance reporting, invoice coding, and reconciliations, and (2.) Supporting the construction team.  This position reports to the Controller. 

Essential Functions:

  • Assist construction teams in properly tracking project costs for new and existing projects.
  • Prepares and analyzes project work- in- process reports.
  • Monitors job status of projects to ensure accurate results.
  • Works with staff on all aspects of new and existing projects providing financial assistance.
  • Supports the Billing Specialist to complete the monthly invoicing for the projects with the assistance of the project managers.
  • Monitors client accounts receivable ledgers to identify delinquent accounts. Works with staff to resolve.
  • Reviews General Ledger detail to ensure proper posting of expense and revenue entries. Makes any adjustments.
  • Prepares monthly accounting entries for prepaids, depreciation and amortization, and interest expense.
  • Maintains fixed assets records and assigns useful lives and proper methods for book and tax.
  • Reconciles bank accounts making entries for transfers, electronic payments, bank fees, debt payments.
  • Reconciles AR and AP month end details to the general ledger. Investigates differences and adjusts.
  • Prepares the financials and verifies the proper accounting for each department.
  • Analyzes and compares financial data to history and industry standards. 
  • Keep current with financial policies, regulation and legislation on financial topics affecting the enterprise-attend conferences and education classes. 

Position Requirements

  •  Four-year Degree in Accounting, Finance, or another related field. Will consider appropriate equivalent experience. 
  • 7+ years of experience in the construction industry. 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedure. 
  • Advanced Excel skills, ability to grasp accounting systems and software. Experience with project-based accounting software preferred.  
  • Ability to read, compare, and interpret figures and data. Strong attention to detail. 
  • Ability to present complex financial information in a clear, accessible way.
