Job Summary

  • The Construction Laborer position involves physical labor and various manual tasks associated with a highway or heavy construction projects.
  • The Construction Laborer reports directly to the Foreman. 

Main Responsibilities

  • This position requires the ability to perform the following tasks, but not limited: Shoveling, use of a pipe saw, setup and pickup of cones and signs, locate utilities, Jackhammer, run plate tamper, drive company equipment, clean up site, Install pipe, rake asphalt, seed and mulch, install silt fence, spot trucks, flag, layout of work, install erosion control, rake topsoil, install geofabric, unload supplies, move office together, backfilling, place concrete, mixing  concrete, place forms and  assist in layout.        
  • May perform other manual task as assigned per supervisor.
  • Follow all safety plans and procedures set forth by the company.

Working Conditions

  • Daily work is performed primarily outdoors on a project.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions, extreme cold and/or heat and day or night. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. 
  • Must be able to regularly talk, hear, climb, twist, bend, stand for long periods, walk, crawl, kneel and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move from moderate loads. 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Some knowledge of highway construction.
  • Understand and apply basic mathematical skills (adding, subtracting, division, & multiplication)
  • Knowledge of basic measurements and how to read a tape measure.
  • Must work well with others and/or by oneself.

Qualifications

  • Must be willing to work varying hours, possible nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Good attendance and positive attitude a must.
  • The ability to follow verbal direction.
  • Experience with a paver preferred. 

 

Requirements

  • Must posses or be able to obtain the following:
    • Valid NYS Driver's License
    • OSHA 10 Hour Certification
    • Defensive Driving Certification
    • Flagger Certification
    • Certification in First Aid & CPR
