Job Title: Field Service Technician

Pay Rate/Hours: $20/hr+, M-F 8 am - 5 pm 

SUMMARY:

This is an opportunity to work in the Syracuse area on radio equipment, particularly as applied to the emergency communications equipment in emergency response vehicles (and other applications.) This position will be ideal for someone who has some experience/interest in working with radio frequency equipment and thrives in a dynamic work enviornment. The employee will be responsible for installment, troubleshooting and repair of a wide variety of electronic equipment associated with communications systems. Responsibilities will include: Installing, servicing and troubleshoot security system components as well as maintaining fire and security equipment including Access Control Systems. Successful candidates will possess a minimum of 2 to 5 years related electrical, technical and/or Security controls experience. 


As an Installation Technician, you will be responsible for customer installations and maintenance of electronic and communications equipment in buildings and critical use vehicles.  You will also be responsible for installing and maintaining systems such as two-way radios, fire alarms, CCTV, security systems, surveillance equipment, and other technology as needed. The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, be motivated, customer service oriented, possess a willingness to learn, and be reliable. The Field Technician will interface directly with the end customer therefore, a professional attitude and appearance are vital.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regular schedule is M-F, 8-5. 
    • On-call approximately 4-6 times yearly. Schedule subject to modifications based on personnel and availability.
  • Complete tasks as assigned in support of a wide range of customer and company operational and technical requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary company and customer information and documentation, system specifications and other intellectual property.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of electronic communications systems at the system and component level.
  • Create, update, maintain, and distribute accurate documentation associated with system installations and maintenance.
  • Work in a fast paced environment both independently and with a team as needed. 
  • Ability to use basic/advanced hand tools. 
  • Solid communication, organizational and prioritization skills essential.
  • Customer care knowledge essential.
  • Maintain a Safe Driving Record.
  • Must keep work area and company assets clean and in good working order, notify supervisor of any repair needed.
  • Review work schedule continuously. Prepares for scheduled jobs, looks ahead and plans.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Experience installing CAT 5/6 cable, related support devices, and terminating coaxial cable.
  • Experience installing communication, two-way radio, CCTV, RF signal distribution, Broadband, and low voltage systems is preferred.
  • DAS (Distributed Antenna System) knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to use basic tools and test equipment including hand tools, power drills, multi-meters, and watt meters. 
  • Accommodate an on-call schedule
  • Must physically be able to lift 50 lbs., maneuver into and out of heavy equipment and work on ladders and other elevated locations including at times standing for extended periods, and occasionally working outside in extreme temperatures. 
  • Ability to understand basic wiring diagrams and basic DC circuit theory a plus.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • OSHA Safety Training and Low Voltage certifications a plus.
  • Familiar with RF transmitter and receiver theory highly desired.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
    • Drug screenings and background checks are part of the hiring process, which may include a Motor Vehicle Record check.Electronics training from a college, trade school, or the military is ideal but not required.
